Fall 2014 Newsletter & Trail Work Day

West River Trail Autumn 2014The Fall 2014 Friends of the West River Trail newsletter is out! Click the link for the full newsletter. Fall 2014 FoWRT newsletter. Current and past newsletters are available on the WRT Newsletter Page.

And a special reminder from the Friends of the West River Trail about the upcoming work day! You know that song, “I’ve been working on the railroad?” Well, you can sing it — or not! — on the West River [Rail] Trail during our upcoming work day: West River Trail Work Day! Saturday, Nov 1, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. No need to work “all the live-long day!” It’s just three hours, or as long as you want to stay. Meet at the Marina Trailhead. Bring Boots, Gloves and Water. We have plenty of tools, but if you prefer, bring your own shovel, iron rake, hand saw, clippers or leaf rake. It should be light work– mostly drainage clean out and pruning as needed. Hopefully it will be a great fall day on the trail! Bring a Friend! Questions? Email jason.cooper10@gmail.com. Hope to see you on the Trail!

Historical Society of Windham County

In October, 2014, the Historical Society of Windham County acquired the Newfane Railroad Station in Newfane, Vermont. The property includes the old depot building and the water tank building, both of which were built in 1880 under the auspices of the Brattleboro – Whitehall Railroad (later called The West River Railroad.)

The Windham County Historical Society has restored the Station as a Museum of the West River Railroad and as an annex to its County Museum in Newfane. The Railroad Station property is a short walk from the County Museum. Click HERE for a slide show of the grand opening on October 14, 2017. The Museum is open from Memorial Day weekend in May through Columbus Day weekend in October, and is located on the main street (Rt.30) in Newfane, VT.

FWRT

Organized in 1992, the Friends of the West River Trail (FWRT) is a 501c3 non-profit organization dedicated to the establishment of a 36-mile scenic trail through the West River Valley – eventually linking Brattleboro, Dummerston, Newfane, Townshend, Jamaica and South Londonderry.
Please spread the word about the West River Trail to anyone who may be interested in knowing about it, volunteering their talents or making a donation. Thank you!

FWRT MISSION

Fiends of the West River Trail's mission is to: Develop and maintain a publicly accessible system of paths along the West River corridor for educational, recreational and alternative transportation purposes.
