Two West River Trail Work Days scheduled:

Thursday, June 9, 4 PM
Remove/control Japanese Knotweed on the cobblestone shoreline of the Riverstone Preserve. Meet at the Marina Trailhead. Bring water, work gloves, snack, bug dope, wear work boots. We have tools, but bring your own if you prefer–shovel and loppers. Help keep the Riverstone Preserve beautiful and able to support its native plants! Saturday, July 23, 9 AM
Meet at the Fox Farm Rd access. We will replace a culvert, work on drainage issues and do more work on removal and control of invasive plants. More information to come. Contact jason.cooper10@gmail.com for more information on the July 23 workday.

West River Trail Workday Report

The West River Trail Workday on May 21st was very successful in clearing and improving drainage in several areas between miles 1.5 ( at the Marina parking lot) and mile 3.5 as well as installing new signs at the Riverstone Preserve and the Fox Farm Trailhead. The day was enjoyed by both trail workers and walkers, many of whom stopped by to express appreciation for the Trail. Photos and report by Jason Cooper. West River Trail Work Day on 21st May 10am-2pm

Please come help improve the Lower Section of the West River Trail on Saturday, May 21st, 10 am – 2 pm. Lunch will be provided.

Meet up at the Marina Trail Head in Brattleboro, VT at 9:45 am. We’ll be doing some drainage and culvert clearing, removal of fallen trees, removal of invasive black swallow wort on the Riverstone Preserve and having fun!

Please bring work boots and gloves, bug spray and water. We’ll provide shovels, rakes and hoes, but feel free to bring your own tools.

West River Trail Workday Report

A big thanks to workday volunteers Elijah Cooper, Jennifer and Jahvon Parker, Dave Cohen and Rachel Zamore and their son, Eli and a friend. We got lots done! Volunteers moved rocks, cleared drainage, cut trees and branches, removed trash and pulled knotweed from a several-hundred square-foot patch of knotweed along the river bank, that had re-sprouted from where the VYCC had cleared last fall. Thanks to all for a very productive day!

And a special reminder from the Friends of the West River Trail about the upcoming work day! You know that song, “I’ve been working on the railroad?” Well, you can sing it — or not! — on the West River [Rail] Trail during our upcoming work day: West River Trail Work Day! Saturday, Nov 1, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. No need to work “all the live-long day!” It’s just three hours, or as long as you want to stay. Meet at the Marina Trailhead. Bring Boots, Gloves and Water. We have plenty of tools, but if you prefer, bring your own shovel, iron rake, hand saw, clippers or leaf rake. It should be light work– mostly drainage clean out and pruning as needed.
